Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

What's Covered in Training?

In our trainings, we touch-on a range of issues that might be impacting the foster child you will support as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Our volunteer CASAs receive training from people who know the most about how the foster care system works in Santa Clara County. Trainers include: social workers, judges, lawyers, parents who have had their children removed and then reunited, nurses, counselors, and teachers.

Below is an example of the schedule of trainings we’ve had – every training is different, so don’t be surprised if yours looks a bit different. After graduation, you will have a second interview, checking-in to see how you felt about the training and honing in on any specific groups of foster youths you are excited to work with (LGBTQ youth, pregnant and parenting teens, infants, etc).

We are grateful for the many ways our community supports the youth we serve, including the many expert trainers who take time out of their lives to share their insights and contexts with our volunteers. As an FYI, our training schedules can shift, so the schedule below is an example and not a promise.
