About 80% of the children and youth we serve have a parent who is struggling with substance abuse. Some of the youth we serve may be fighting against addictions themselves.
The most current research on addiction tells us that it is a relapsing, remitting brain disease and can be managed with treatment, both medical and therapeutic. Remember, you as a CASA may not provide therapy to your advocate children, but you can be a supportive member of a team that is rooting for them.
The right-hand resources can help you understand the context of both your advocate child and their family as they work towards recovery.
